Braun Series 9 9299cc review (2021)

It is part of Braun’s business idea to keep bringing out new variants of its electric razors that differ only in color or marginally in the scope of delivery. This is especially true for the manufacturer’s top series, the legendary Series 9. This also includes the Braun Series 9 9299cc. This is a gift edition that came on the market in spring 2019, which is particularly impressive in terms of appearance. In our Braun Series 9 9299cc test, we clarify whether it technically holds what you expect from a Series 9 electric shaver.

Golden design

The Braun Series 9 9299cc stands out. Not only because of its great performance in removing beard hair – more on this below in our test report – but also visually. Because Braun has chosen a particularly opulent color for this gift edition: gold. The 9299xx shines (literally) in shimmering gold and thus has a particularly elegant look.

The device looks good, sure. It’s noble and high quality. But to be honest: I think the silver design of the alternative versions like the Braun Series 9 9290cc or the Braun Series 9 9296cc is more stylish. But that’s a matter of taste. A gold-colored razor is somehow a bit “too much” for me. But, as already mentioned, this is everyone’s own taste and therefore everyone’s own decision. I’m only speaking for my point of view, because design is always a very subjective thing. The other criteria in our test, which we come to now, can, however, be assessed much more objectively.

As usual: top equipment from Braun

In terms of equipment, the new Series 9 9299cc from Braun is once again beyond any doubt. Why it is like that? Because this electric shaver is also very well equipped. It offers exactly what characterizes the other Braun Series 9 razors. And it was not for nothing that they made it to the top of the podium of the best electric shavers from our test and won the test in the form of the Braun Series 9 9296cc.

It has everything on board that sets the best Braun razors apart from the crowd of electric razors. This includes the well-known five shaving elements that adapt to the face in 10 directions in order to trace your facial contours in the best possible way and not leave any stubble behind. This is a great advantage, especially in uneven and difficult to reach places. Sonic technology is also installed, with which the razor head has 10,000 micro-vibrations per minute. According to Braun and the experience in our test, this ensures less skin friction – and thus less redness and an overall significantly smoother shave. Also worth mentioning is the trimmer, which is provided with a titanium coating and can be used to cut the transitions between beard and shaved areas razor-sharp.

Shave your skin already

One of the outstanding features of the Series 9 razors from Braun, which also includes the 9299cc, is that it is kind to the skin. This is also absolutely given with this model, making it ideal for very sensitive facial skin like mine. The result is that I (and certainly you after the purchase) suffer significantly less razor burn and skin redness than I had with my old razor. That’s why I also use a Series 9 razor privately for my daily shave. For the optical reasons already mentioned, this is not the 9299cc, but an identical Series 9: our test winner Braun Series 9 9296cc.

What I really like about all of the models is that they can be used for both wet and dry shaving. This means that you can also use this electric razor wet with foam and water instead of using a typical wet razor from our test. In addition, the 9299cc, like its almost identical brothers, is completely waterproof, so it can also be used in the shower or cleaned under running water.

The beloved cleaning station

The cleaning station provided makes cleaning even easier. I have already praised this in several other reviews of models from the Series 9. The part is called the 5-step cleaning and charging station and does not only clean the device using special ones Cleaning cartridges with the alcohol, which unfortunately has to be bought regularly and thus unfortunately also cause follow-up costs – a small minus point, which in my opinion can be tolerated due to the daily feeling of a virtually new razor. The station also charges the shaver so that it is always ready for use.

With a fully charged battery, this lasts up to 50 minutes, which is a good value and enough for numerous shaves – if I forget to put the item back on the charging station or take it with me on vacation “solo”. Incidentally, a lithium-ion battery is installed which, when empty, takes around an hour to fully recharge.

Usual scope of delivery

The scope of delivery includes what is also known from the 9296cc and other Series 9 shavers from Braun. These include the aforementioned cleaning and charging station, including a charging cable for connecting to the power supply, a cleaning cartridge, a cleaning brush, a case and a storage bag. If you ask me, everything is included that a man’s heart desires and needs when it comes to electric shavers.

There is one sticking point in the whole thing in the end. Because the price of the 9299cc is currently still significantly higher than the other and comparable models. If you don’t necessarily value a gold-colored razor, but can also live with a slightly more inconspicuous and less decadent color (i.e. silver or gray), you can save around 50 to 100 euros. As a result, the price / performance ratio for the 9299cc is not quite as good as it could be. The performance is impeccable as usual, but the price is a bit too high in our opinion.

Our conclusion on the Braun Series 9 9299cc test

If you would like to have a golden razor, the 9299cc is the best choice. Top shaving results and equipment that leaves nothing to be desired. If the color is not that important to you or (like me) you don’t like it that much, you can save a few euros (as I said) with other Series 9 razors that have been on the market for a little longer – and get the same performance.
